The car is successfully ‘homologated’ by the Pune based Automotive research Association of India (ARAI).

Thus, the car has met the specified criteria for road worthiness that have been laid down by the Indian government.

Therefore, it can now ply on the Indian roads. The Nano comes with a twin cylinder 623 cc rear mounted petrol engine. It generates 33 horsepower.

This makes it the smallest engine in the India. The fuel efficiency as scored in the tests with ARAI is 24 kmpl. This means that it will deliver well over 20 kmpl on Indian roads.

The Nano confirms to Euro IV emission norms, which is going to come into effect in India in 2010.
