Golf GT Sport gets Sportier

So far the “R-Series” has exclusively stood for high-performance cars such as the Golf R32, Passat R36 or the Touareg R50. For the first time in New Zealand, the Golf is now available with the "R-Line" sports package. With just 50 vehicles on offer, this is one sure to remain exclusive and desirable.

The Golf R-Line has been developed by Volkswagen Individual GmbH, which is a division of Volkswagen AG. This specialist team is responsible for developing special models.

The idea behind the Golf R-Line is to take up the characteristic design elements of the Golf R32, making entry into the world of sporty Volkswagens significantly more economical. The canvas for the Golf R-Line is the familiar 5 door Golf GT Sport. Power and economy from the well known 2.0 TDI diesel engine and DSG transmission, combined with sports seats and sports suspension produce a particularly dynamic driving experience.

The R-Line package adds a number of extras to make this model distinctive. Externally, a Golf R32 style radiator grille with matte chrome finish and slatted air inlets create a powerful front end. A roof edge spoiler, rear diffuser and painted spoiler lower sections complete the sporty look. 17” alloy wheels are of the "Omanyt" type, again consistent with the R-Series of sports cars.

The interior receives a similarly sporty treatment. The perforated leather R32 style sports steering wheel with multifunction controls and DSG paddles is complimented by stainless steel pedal covers. Sports seats are in "Monte Carlo" fabric and dash inserts are of "Dark Engine Spin" type.

Dean Sheed, Volkswagen General Manager for New Zealand, expects the Golf R-Line to be well received by customers: “The Golf R32 has proven to be a particularly popular choice in this country, with its strong combination of sports car performance in the convenience of a hatch body. In times where fuel consumption is of particular focus, the Golf R-Line represents the best of both worlds – the economy of the TDI diesel engine, but at the same time the high torque levels, DSG transmission and R-Line package ensure satisfying driving dynamics.” Just 50 vehicles will be available in New Zealand – 25 in Candy White and 25 in Black Magic. With an incremental package price of just $2,500, the Golf R-Line has a retail of $49,490 and is available from June 2008. Please contact your nearest Volkswagen dealer for further information.
