GM & SAIC become first partner of World Expo 2010 Shanghai

Shanghai - General Motors and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. Group (SAIC) have become the first partner of World Expo 2010 Shanghai to sign an agreement with the Shanghai Expo Bureau for the establishment of a corporate pavilion.

GM and SAIC will build a joint corporate pavilion under the theme of “Sustainable Mobility.” They will feature exhibits showcasing their vision for the coexistence of people, motor vehicles and roads in the cities of the future through reinvention of the automotive industry. This follows the World Expo 2010 Shanghai theme of “Better City, Better Life.”

“Those who visit our corporate pavilion will get a chance to experience the excitement of the future cars and technology being created by GM and SAIC,” said Kevin Wale, President and Managing Director of the GM China Group. “At Shanghai 2010 Expo, we will demonstrate GM’s cutting-edge technology to help build a cleaner, safer and less congested society.”

GM and SAIC were the first official partner of World Expo 2010 Shanghai to submit a pavilion theme proposal. The two partners sent their joint corporate pavilion proposal to the Shanghai Expo Bureau on November 2, 2007, about 11 months after they joined forces to become the exclusive automotive partner of World Expo 2010 Shanghai.

World Expo 2010 Shanghai will be the first registered world exposition held in a developing country. It will run for 184 days, beginning on May 1, 2010. Participants will display urban civilization to the full extent, exchange expertise on urban development, disseminate advanced notions on cities, and explore new approaches to human habitat, lifestyle and working conditions in the new century. Visitors will learn how to create an eco-friendly society and maintain the sustainable development of human beings.

The organizers of World Expo 2010 Shanghai will seek to attract about 200 nations and international organizations to take part in the exhibition as well as 70 million visitors from China and abroad, ensuring the widest possible participation in the history of World Expositions.
